For Gloria Castillo, her journey with NurseCore began nearly 28 years ago on November 18, 1996, when she joined the company as an accounts payable specialist. What started as a position focused on managing payments has since blossomed into a fulfilling career where she has worn many hats — each one adding a new layer of expertise and experience to her already impressive skill set.
“I was lucky enough to be a stay-at-home mom for years,” Gloria recalls. “When all my children were school age, I decided to brush up on my skills and learn new ones. That way, when the time was right, I’d be ready to compete in the job market. NurseCore’s business model offered a new opportunity for growth and success, both for me and the company.”
Over the years, Gloria has transitioned through various roles in the accounting department. From accounts payable to accounts receivable, payroll, and finally, financials — each role has allowed her to see the full spectrum of accounting. “
For me, it has come full circle,” she reflects. “I’ve developed a deep appreciation for where I started, what I’ve learned and the new opportunities that lie ahead.”
NurseCore Culture: Friendship, Respect, Integrity
One of the most significant aspects of Gloria’s long tenure at NurseCore is the strong culture of friendship, respect and integrity that she has experienced.
“I appreciate that each of us brings different values, ideas, attitudes and goals to the table,” she says. “NurseCore has helped me build relationships and hone my communication skills — not just to listen, but to truly hear what is being voiced.”
Teamwork and camaraderie are essential parts of Gloria’s experience at NurseCore. She fondly recalls the NurseCore Olympics, where team members created their own teams, came up with names and competed in various games.
“It was all about team building, encouragement, unity, fun and bonding with our co-workers,” Gloria says with a smile.
Throughout her career, Gloria has been fortunate to have mentors like Larry Carr, one of the founders of NurseCore.
“Larry gave me encouragement, support, advice and knowledge,” she shares. “He taught me that when it comes to vendors, ‘No’ is not always the final answer. Larry treated us as more than just employees — we were part of the family. I’m forever grateful for Larry, Sharon, Rita and Deborah’s friendship and support.”
Looking Forward: Embracing New Challenges and Opportunities
Looking ahead, Gloria is excited about the future of NurseCore, particularly with the advancement of technology-based applications. She is motivated to absorb new applications and training, eager to engage herself in new opportunities for growth and knowledge.
“I hope to continue accepting new challenges and being supportive to our NurseCore family,” she says.
When Gloria isn’t at work, she enjoys spoiling her grandchildren, her new enthusiastic hobby after an injury ended her jogging routine. She also loves to unwind by cooking, a relaxing end to her busy days.
As Gloria reflects on her nearly three decades with NurseCore, she offers this piece of advice to new employees: “Listen, ask questions and absorb the knowledge of your coworkers.”
For Gloria, NurseCore has been more than just a place to work — it has been a place of growth, support, knowledge and encouragement.
“This is my work home,” she says proudly. “I’ve been lucky enough to have had two employers in my lifetime, and NurseCore will allow me to end my career on a high note of success, accomplishments and friendships. Of course, I don’t plan on that being anytime soon.”
