With great hope and excitement, NurseCore welcomes our first Cristo Rey students. To help us all know them better, we asked them to answer a few questions about their aspirations, their hopes, likes, etcetera. The following is a brief sketch of who they are, as well as what they hope to accomplish while with NurseCore. I know you’ll agree, they are the bright lights of our future.
Hisleny Brizuela
Welcome, Hisleny and congratulations. As a senior and as a member of the Class of 2022, she has the distinction of being in the first class to graduate from Cristo Rey Fort Worth. During her time with NurseCore, Hisleny wants to learn more about the healthcare industry, specifically the hiring process. To accomplish this goal, she will join the DFW Staffing and Recruiting department to gain a better understanding of the healthcare profession. In addition, she aspires to be an Anesthesiologist. This career goal stems from a personal loss. When asked, if you had the power to change one thing in the world today, what would it be? She responded, “I would definitely change the fact that there’s no cure for cancer because I had a close family member pass away from it.”
Hisleny’s favorite subject is math and why? “Because I like to challenge myself,” she replied. She also challenges herself as a midfielder playing soccer. When asked what advice she would give to her ten-year-old self, she replied, “I would tell myself to continue working hard and stay strong.” So, it comes as no surprise that her favorite hero is Superman.
What does a motivated young person like Hisleny like to do in her free time? “I like to play soccer, go out with my friends, watch movies, (her favorite movie is Hacksaw Ridge) play with my dog, Chinis, and I love Latin music.” If you ever want to buy Hisleny lunch, make sure enchiladas are on the menu, that’s her favorite food. After getting to know her, we asked if she wanted to share anything else about herself and she replied, “Fun fact one, my mom is Salvadorian, and my dad is Mullan. Fun fact two, I started flying alone at the age of three. I’m very independent.”
Fernando Flores
Meet Fernando, he is from a family of four. He has two older sisters and an older brother who is almost eighteen years older than him. He says his favorite subject is history, “because it lets me understand major events that led up to our current timeline.” In his free time, he enjoys playing video games and watching movies. His favorite movie is Rocky, his favorite actor is Keanu Reeves, and his favorite food is enchiladas.
Fernando is a junior, and he enjoys playing baseball. He also plays acoustic guitar and is currently learning to play bass guitar. He loves spending time with his German Sheppard who he says, “When we adopted her, we didn’t notice she had one blue and one green eye.”
During his time with NurseCore, Fernando will work in the Human Resource, Marketing, and Social Media departments. These are great departments for him to reach his goal of furthering his social skills. His advice to his ten-year-old self is, “don’t worry about the future, live in the moment, but still keep your grades up.” He also says, “If I had the power to change one thing in the world today it would be COVID-19 because so many people are affected by it.”
Sofia Hernandez
This young lady is in the right place for her career goals. Sofia will work in the Reimbursement, Accounting, and Payroll department. She wants to be a Registered Nurse, in addition to studying Information Technology. She says,” During my time with NurseCore, I want to learn everything about the nursing field and how it relates to IT.” Sofia is a sophomore and science is her favorite school subject.
In her free time, Sofia keeps herself busy playing volleyball, she’s a setter and defense specialist. She also plays the violin and is currently learning to play the guitar and piano. She likes watching new shows on streaming services and her favorite movie is Howl’s Moving Castle. When asked if she had to pick a hero who would it be? She replied, “Flash because he is an interesting character for a hero.”
“I am the oldest of two children. It’s me and my little sister, who is eleven. I enjoy playing volleyball and basketball with her. I also love spicy foods and spending time with our three pets, two small dogs and a bunny.” Finally, when asked if she had the power to change one thing in the world today what would that be? Sofia said, “It would be COVID-19. I would make it be over so we could all go back to normal.”
Nina Obregon
Although she is still weighing her career options, during her time with NurseCore, Nina wants to get experience working in the medical field. She will work in the DFW Staffing and Recruiting department, which will give her an in-depth understanding of our dedicated healthcare workers, and the professional relationships NurseCore staff develops with them in the recruiting and hiring process. Nina is a freshman, and her favorite school subject is English. When questioned what advice she would give to her ten-year-old self, she replied, “Be yourself and never give up on your dreams.” Nina has five older brothers who are no longer at home. She says, “This has made me an only child for the past nine years.”
In her free time, she enjoys playing guitar. She is also learning to play the piano and loves listening to a wide variety of music genres. She also puts shopping, hanging out with family and friends, and relaxing at the top of her favorites list. She doesn’t play a sport but says, “I love watching football with my parents because it’s such an interesting game.” Her favorite movie is Twilight and Jennifer Lawrence, and Emma Watson are her favorite actors.
Nina says her hero is her mom because “she knows me the best.” In response to the question, if she had the power to change one thing in the world what would it be? She replied, “It would be to make the world a happier place.” Nina’s happy place is with her two dogs, King and Bruno, and her hamster Ollie.
